Scoliosis
Scoliosis refers to curvature of the spine.
Curvatures may originate from some kind of trauma or fall.
The body compensates for the spinal misalignments that occur, but
unfortunately this can result in permanent changes in the body's
mechanics causing a curvature. The medical profession treats
scoliosis by placing the patient in a brace or cast, and in severe
cases surgery and the insertion of a rod may be done.
The chiropractor uses spinal manipulation to
correct the rotational malpositions of the vertebrae. Heel
lifts and foot supports may be utilized. The patient is
instructed in exercise techniques to strengthen specific muscle
groups. Periodic evaluations are done to evaluate change.
The patient will need to have regular chiropractic manipulations
for the vertebrae to be adjusted into the proper position.
If the patient cooperates fully with the chiropractor, the
condition may be controlled without resorting to more extreme
medical procedures.
Chiropractic is The Treatment
of Choice for Structural Problems.
Check your child for the following:
-
The head should be level and centered over the trunk.
Look for even ear level
-
Shoulders should be level
-
Tips of the fingers should be at the same level when hanging
loosely.

-
The arms should be slightly rotated inward and the palms

If you notice any postural abnormalities in your child, look
to your chiropractor as the expert who can properly evaluate the
extent of the curvature and recommend an appropriate treatment
plan or an appropriate referral.
